T20, ODI and Test — Differences in Betting Across Three Formats

Cricket betting is not limited to a single format. Each format has its own pace, strategy and betting opportunities.

T20: The fastest format. Every over, every six and four can shift the odds. BPL and IPL are the most popular tournaments in this format — BPL holds a special place for Bangladeshi fans. In-play betting is very active in T20 matches because the situation can change in an instant.

ODI: In a fifty-over match, a team's mid-innings performance and pace balance matter. ICC tournaments and bilateral series are played in the ODI format. Odds are a little more stable than in T20, but they can shift quickly when wickets fall in the middle overs.

Test: In a five-day match, a draw is a possible result. Three possible outcomes — Team A wins, Team B wins, or a draw — set it apart from T20 or ODI. Pitch conditions and weather play a significant role in Test betting.

The T20 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy and Asia Cup are the major international cricket events. bet naga offers multiple betting markets for matches across all these competitions.

Football and Other Sports Betting — How They Differ from Cricket

bet naga is not limited to cricket. There is a key difference in football betting — a draw is a normal result in football, so most matches have three possible outcomes: 1X2 (home wins / draw / away wins). In contrast, T20 and ODI cricket have only two possible outcomes, which keeps the odds structure much simpler.

In football, goals over/under, Asian handicap and corner markets are popular. In cricket, total runs over/under and wicket markets are more commonly used. The betting experience for the two sports is different — being familiar with one makes it easier to learn the other.

5 Popular Cricket Betting Markets and How They Work

Each market has its own rules. The cards below explain each market in one sentence.

Match Winner

The simplest bet — pick which of the two teams will win the match: Team A or Team B.

Toss Winner

Bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts — unrelated to the match result.

Top Batsman

Bet on which batsman will score the most runs in a specific innings or across the whole match.

Total Runs Over/Under

The bookmaker sets a runs line — you bet on whether the total runs in the match will go over or stay under that line.

Multi Bet

Three selections — decimal 1.50, 1.70 and 1.90 — combined give odds of 4.84; a ৳100 bet returns ৳484, but all three must win.

First Wicket Method

You can bet on how the first wicket will fall — bowled, caught, run out or another method.

Understanding Odds

Decimal, Fractional and American Odds — Working Examples

Odds are written in three formats. All three express the same probability, just written differently. The table below shows the same bet in all three formats.

Format Team A Team B (Favourite)
Decimal 3.00 1.50
Fractional 2/1 1/2
American +200 -200

Example 1 — Team A (Underdog): On a ৳500 bet, if Team A wins you get back ৳1,500 (৳1,000 profit + ৳500 original stake). If Team A loses, ৳500 is gone.

Example 2 — Team B (Favourite): Decimal 1.50 means a ৳500 bet returns ৳750 (৳250 profit). In American format, −200 means you need to stake ৳200 to make ৳100 profit — the minus sign applies to the favourite.

Decimal odds are the easiest to calculate — stake multiplied by odds equals total return. bet naga shows decimal format by default.

Odds Shift When a Wicket Falls — A Guide to In-Play Betting

Live betting means you can place bets after the match has started. In cricket this is especially relevant because the nature of a match can change in just one over.

Effect of a wicket: If two wickets fall in the powerplay, the batting team's odds lengthen immediately — meaning the bookmaker considers their chances of winning lower. If a good batsman is at the crease, that team's odds shorten.

Effect of overs: If the required run rate is high in the last five overs, the chasing team's odds lengthen. If the run rate is under control, they shorten.

Keep in mind for in-play betting: Watch the flow of the match for a few minutes before placing a bet. If you feel pressured to decide quickly, take a break. Stay within your budget by following the responsible gaming guidelines.

Betting Tips

Five Tips for Building Effective Habits in Cricket Betting

Betting is entertainment — there is no guarantee of profit. The habits below help keep the experience more organised.

01

Set a fixed budget before each session and do not exceed it — regardless of whether you win or lose.

02

Focus on one format — T20, ODI or Test. Each format has a different pace; understand one well before moving on.

03

Adding many selections to a multi bet raises the combined odds but reduces the chance of all selections being correct — understand this before placing a bet.

04

In live betting, avoid placing large bets driven by emotion — wait until the flow of the match has stabilised before making a decision.

05

Do not keep increasing your bets to chase losses — it only makes things worse. Taking a break is always the right call.

Common Questions

Cricket Betting FAQ

T20 is the fastest-paced — odds shift quickly every over, so in-play betting is most active here. ODI moves at a moderate pace — mid-innings performance matters. In Test matches a draw is possible, so you bet across three outcomes, which sets it apart from T20/ODI where only one of two teams wins.

The odds of each selection are multiplied together to get the combined odds. For example — three selections at decimal 1.50, 1.70 and 1.90 give combined odds of 1.50 × 1.70 × 1.90 = 4.84 (rounded). On a ৳100 bet, if all three win you get back ৳484. But if even one loses you lose the full ৳100 — in a multi bet every selection must be correct.

When a key batsman from the batting side is dismissed, that team's chance of winning drops — so their odds lengthen and the bowling side's odds shorten. Two or three wickets falling in quick succession makes this shift even faster. However, if a new batsman starts well the odds can stabilise again.

Both are T20 format league tournaments, so the betting markets are the same — match winner, toss, total runs, top batsman and so on. The difference is in team strength and familiarity. IPL features more international players, so markets can be deeper. BPL has more familiar Bangladeshi cricketers, which gives it a special appeal for local fans.

In American odds, the minus sign is used for the favourite. For example, −200 means you need to stake ৳200 to make a ৳100 profit. If you bet ৳500 you get back ৳750 (৳250 profit + ৳500 stake). By contrast, +200 (plus sign) means ৳200 profit on a ৳100 bet — this is used for the underdog.
